Week 6: B2B Marketing

I thought this chapter was very interesting. I currently work the Housing and Dining Maintenance for Washington State University. Everyday, my co-workers receive shipments from manufacturers that Washington State University contract with. Last week, I received an order from one of our main distributors for cleaning supplies for the dorms. We received a shipment of hand-soap called, "Chormatic Gold." The amazing thing about it is the amount of money that the soap costs. It came on a wooden pallet, about 37 boxes, which contain 10, half-gallon jugs of soap. The Pallet had 370 half-gallon jugs of soap. JUST the soap bill was close to $900.00, FOR SOAP! Now, when you take into account how many times an order for this soap is placed each year, its about twice a month. That soap is just enough to last about three weeks in all of the student housing across campus.

Business-2-Business Marketing is very facinating. Being able to work at the Warehouse for WSU Housing and Dining Maintenance gave me the opportunity to witness B2B marketing first hand. I could go on and on about what I have seen. I was curious to see how much WSU spends on toilet paper for student housing each year, and you would be shocked. Lets just put it this way, the toilet paper shipment we got in last week was a little over $25,000. Yeah, thats not a typo. And thats enough to last about one month....
